Motivation
Blue bioeconomy is primarily aquatic circular economy and extends our current system boundaries for bioeconomic use from the land (29% Earth surface) to the oceans (71% surface). Aquatic ecosystems are sensitive and not "domesticated". There are hardly any cultivated landscapes under water. Use, management and disposal must be gentle and sustainable. The blue bioeconomy will grow mainly in regions with access to natural, large water areas (especially coastal regions), such as in northern Germany ... or at the Baltic Sea!
